Describing clothes and objects
Match an adjective to the item you are describing.
Singular · gender
In a basic description, the adjective follows the noun’s gender: новый шарф, новая сумка, новое пальто. Пальто is neuter even though its ending does not change.
- Это новый шарф.
- This is a new scarf.
- Это новая сумка.
- This is a new bag.
- Это новое пальто.
- This is a new coat.
Plural · more than one
A plural noun takes a plural adjective regardless of its singular gender. These examples use -ые; other adjectives can have -ие.
- Это новые шарфы.
- These are new scarves.
- Это новые сумки.
- These are new bags.
- Это красные ботинки.
- These are red shoes.
A different pattern · синий
Learn синий, синяя, синее, синие together. These are nominative descriptions; forms after verbs and prepositions need their own patterns.
- Шарф синий, а шапка синяя.
- The scarf is blue, and the hat is blue.
- Пальто синее, а ботинки синие.
- The coat is blue, and the shoes are blue.
